The students created beautiful poppies during our learning about ANZAC day using pastel, pva glue and black paint. They worked on their poppies over a few weeks and I have finally got them up on display. They look absolutely stunning!

For the past two weeks the students have been learning all about the significance and importance of ANZAC Day and why we commemorate it. The students have been reading different stories related to ANZAC Day and are completing a flip book to share their learning. Our class site has been a basis for our learning.
All week the students had been looking forward to eating like an ANZAC. Today they got to give it go! They had a meal of bully beef, jam and hard tack. Some of the students were a little unsure but they gave it a go which was fabulous to see. Lots even wanted seconds! FABULOUS.

This week we were so lucky to make ANZAC biscuits with Whaea Kiran and Whaea Reyna. We read the storybook ANZAC Day and read the school journal article about ANZAC biscuits.
In groups of 5 the students followed the ANZAC biscuits recipe in the school journal (Anzac Biscuits Part 02 No. 03 : 2007 – This historical report about the origins of Anzac biscuits is accompanied by a recipe). They had a fabulous time baking and eating hot ANZAC biscuits and even took some home for sharing with friends and whanau. A huge thank you to Whaea Kiran and Whaea Reyna!
